In July 2021, guitarist Jim Root posted a video to his Instagram story entitled "k, bye". One of these photos included the track name " Heirloom", and another with an abbreviation for " De Sade". In June 2021, the Diluted Maggot Tumblr page reposted eight pictures of Slipknot in the studio recording the album, originally for OT9 Members. In March 2021, Corey Taylor said that the album could be a concept album. In a Reddit AMA, Taylor revealed that the album's name was always The End, So Far and that the incorrect name was caused by "somebody didn't double check with us." The incorrect name also appeared on the original vinyl and cassette releases, with the vinyl copies having a sticker featuring the correct name placed over the incorrect one. When the album was first announced, the name was misprinted as The End for Now… on merch mock-ups and on the original single artwork for " The Dying Song (Time to Sing)" on Spotify, before being updated to the correct artwork. The album was originally slated for a spring/summer 2022 release date, but was eventually released on September 30, 2022. It will also be their last album with Roadrunner, but won't be their last album overall. The End, So Far is the seventh studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot.
